Code of Conduct

OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE (OLLI) AT SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY

For OLLI Members, Instructors, and Staff

Approved by OLLI SFSU Council on February 23, 2022

This Code of Conduct has been developed for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at San Francisco State University (OLLI SFSU) and has been approved by the OLLI SFSU Council. It articulates in a general way expectations for the ways OLLI members, instructors, and staff should interact with each other, keeping in mind that no Code of Conduct can really substitute for common sense and good judgment. Instructors, members, and staff are also encouraged to review the San Francisco State University Student Code of Conduct.

Ensuring that the OLLI SFSU learning community is welcoming and affirming is a shared responsibility. Above all, OLLI SFSU values mutual respect, personal and academic integrity, and kindness while engaging in civil discourse. Members are encouraged to engage in thoughtful and respectful dialogue about difficult or controversial issues and, at the same time, to respect the rights of others to do the same.

Instructors are responsible for leading and moderating classroom discussions. During class discussions, no member shall dominate, thereby limiting the opportunity of other members to voice their opinions.

Members, instructors, and staff of OLLI SFSU shall contact the Director if they observe behavior in violation of this Code of Conduct. The Director will speak with all parties involved.  If necessary the Director will address any behaviors in violation of this Code of Conduct directly with the alleged violator(s). If, in the Director’s judgment, a violation has occurred, consequences may include suspension or termination of membership/teaching privileges or a disciplinary warning/termination of employment of a staff member.  If the behavior of the member, instructor, or staff appears to fall under Title IX (including, but not limited to sexual harassment, and discrimination) the Director will contact the SFSU Title IX Office for consultation and/or reporting.
