Sixty Plus Lecture: “Song & Dance Men of the Silver Screen: Fred Astaire” with Bonnie Weiss

Monday, November 13, 2017 - 13:00
In this program you’ll learn all about Fred Astaire’s early life and stunning career. You’ll find out why great songwriters like Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter loved to have Fred sing their songs.
And you’ll be viewing memorable moments of dance and song from such great Fred and Ginger flicks as “Flying Down to Rio,” “Top Hat,” and “Swing Time.”
You’ll also see clips of Fred’s remarkable gifts as a solo dancer and in delightful duets with other illustrious dancers such as Joan Crawford, Eleanor Powell, and Cyd Charisse. And you’ll even learn who Fred’s very favorite dancing partner was. (Hint: It wasn’t Ginger!)

If you are not a Premiere Sixty Plus member, please arrange your visit ahead of time with Eileen Ward at sixty@sfsu.edu.
