Did you know that Mission HS has a fascinating museum about the school? It includes some antique school furniture, equipment, photographs, yearbooks, and a scale model of Mission Dolores built by civil engineering & woodwork students in 1926 for the City’s sesquicentennial. Memorabilia from well-known alumni includes writer Maya Angelou; former SF Giants third baseman Alan Gallagher; former CA governor& SF mayor James “Sunny Jim” Rolph; CA State Senator Leland Yee and musician Carlos Santana.
See the school auditorium with most of its original 1,700 folding wooden seats, gold-leaf ceiling, and lamp chandeliers and Edith Hamlin’s WPA mural. Optional lunch after tour at the nearby Dolores Park Café (sandwiches, salads, & all day breakfasts). Click here for details about the cafe.
Meet at main entrance to Mission High School, 3750 18th Street, between Dolores & Church Streets, convenient to J Church, 22 Fillmore, and 33 Ashbury. Tour and museum visit will be about two hours.
