Sixty Plus - Bonnie Weiss: “Broadway’s Legendary Composers ~ Rodgers & Hammerstein”
This one-hour presentation shows video clips of celebrated songs from these productions as well as a rare piece of footage featuring Rodgers and Hammerstein demonstrating how they wrote a hit song from “State Fair.”
Richard Rodgers (on the left in photo) is the composer half of two of the most successful songwriting teams in Broadway history – Rodgers & Hart and Rodgers & Hammerstein. In our one-hour presentation, we’ll concentrate on the second half of Rodgers’ career when Oscar Hammerstein was his lyricwriting partner. Together they wrote the scores for nine Broadway musicals including the groundbreaking “Oklahoma,” “Carousel,” “South Pacific,” “The King and I,” and “The Sound of Music.”
