SF Adventures Jan. 5 1230pm (or 11:30am) DeYoung Museum lecture with Maureen O'Brien: Royal Hawaiian Featherwork
When: January 5, 2016 - 12:00pm
Tue. Jan. 5, 2016: Maureen O'Brien’s DeYoung Museum lecture: Royal Hawaiian Featherwork + OLLI Adventures planning meeting Friday, January 8th: Meet inside the DeYoung Museum’s Koret Auditorium just before the 1:00 pm docent lecture by OLLI’s “very own” art lecturer Maureen O'Brien de Geller. Look for other OLLI students inside the Koret Auditorium midway between the first and last row on the right side facing the stage.
Maureen’s free one hour talk is about the Royal Hawaiian Featherwork exhibit. Learn about the distinctive art, culture, and history of Hawai‘i through the first exhibition of Hawaiian featherwork on the US mainland, developed in partnership with the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, Honolulu. This exhibit features 75 rare and stunning examples of the finest featherwork capes and cloaks in existence, as well as royal staffs of feathers, feather leis, helmets, feathered god images, and related eighteenth- and nineteenth-century paintings and works on paper.
It’s the free first Tues. at the DeYoung. Come early and/or stay late (museum open 9:30 am to 5:15 pm) to see the Royal Hawaiian Featherwork exhibit for only $5 (instead of the non-free day senior price of $12) and/or the Panama-Pacific International Exposition Jewel City exhibit for only $10 (instead of the non-free day senior price of $17.)
If you want to have lunch with OLLI members in the de Young Café (Lunch hours 11 am–3:30 pm,) look for them in the corridor to the café just opposite the restrooms at 11:30am.
ALSO – You are invited to the OLLI Adventures meeting Friday, January 8th at 10:00 am at the downtown campus to help plan next year's calendar of Adventures and solicit adventure ideas.
