Meeting Place: Castro Theater (429 Castro Street)
Hike overview: challenging 3.5 mile hike, about 2 hours, 700 ft elevation. 44% uphill, 44% downhill and 12% flat, steep stairs and streets, uneven pavement and muddy in some areas (see map and photos below)
Description: We will cover several neighborhoods in a short distance. Stunning views, unique architecture, magnificent stairs and hidden terraces. We will visit, Kite Hill, Tank Hill, Mount Olympus, Buena Vista and Duboce Parks. This is a spectacular loop, but strenuous at times.
Hiking shoes are a must since in January some spots may be wet. Most of it is paved except for Kite and Tank Hills. For those that use walking sticks, please bring them. The only bathrooms and water fountains available are at the Harvey Milk Recreation center (about 1.5 hours into the walk). Please bring water, arrive early and use bathrooms at Starbucks (4083 18th st) or other local shops before the walk.
