OLLI Hikers Group - Sept 24 Thurs - A Ramble on Forest Hill, Golden Gate Heights, & Edgehill Mountain
Have you ever wandered the hills above West Portal? Have you seen the many open spaces with actual trails and magnificent views of the whole city from up there? These exclusive neighborhoods feature magnificent homes built by some of the Bay Area's finest architects, including Bernard Maybeck and Harold Stoner. There's even a "BEAR" on Edgehill Mountain!!! Join fellow OLLI members Janis Gomes, Sally Hatchett, and Linda Liebelt as we ramble over the winding streets, pedestrian stairways, and paths above West Portal.
This hike is approximately 4.33 miles, with a maximum elevation gain of 761 feet. There are a couple optional very short sections along uneven dirt paths which can be quite steep. For these, hiking poles are recommended but not required. An alternate route will be available for anyone unable to walk on steep uneven paths. There are water fountains and restrooms at West Portal Library, at the beginning and end of this hike. There will be one rest stop en route at JP Murphy Playground. At the end of the hike, there will be an opportunity, for anyone who wishes it, to have lunch at one of West Portal's many fine eateries.
10am-12:45pm. Meet at 10am outside West Portal Library, corner of Lenox Way and Ulloa, across the street from the MUNI Metro tunnel.
