Sixty Plus Lecture - “California Politics” with Tom Ammiano

Monday, October 23, 2017 - 13:00

Tom Ammiano, Politician and LGBT Rights Activist

Tom Ammiano has kept his topic very broad, and certainly he will bring an interesting perspective on the current politics in California ─ and possibly the rest of the country.

Born to a working-class Italian family in Montclair, New Jersey, he attended high school there and attended Seton Hall University. He moved to San Francisco in 1963 and earned a master’s degree in special education from SF State in 1965. From 1966 – 1968 he was an English teacher in a small town in South Vietnam, serving with a Quaker development group. Tom has been an LGBT activist for many years – and also has served on the San Francisco Board of Education, San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and in the California State Assembly from 2008 – 2014.
