Brown Bag Lunch: Find Out About Your Parks – OLLI member Ed Mason and guest Dee Seligman
April 30, 2014 from 1--2:30pm at 835 Market Street, Room 677, SF, CA 94013
There will be a presentation about San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's Natural Areas Program and its related twenty-year management plan for 1100 acres of our parks. This plan describes 18,500 mature non-native trees that will be felled, about 9 miles of trails will be closed, almost 20 acres of off-leash dog play areas will be closed, and toxic herbicides will continue to be used at a much higher rate in these particular areas, all at taxpayers' expense.
A small group of independent citizens are trying to inform the public about this little-known program, currently in environmental impact review stage, with the final EIR due in July of this year. The comment period for the draft EIR is over, but this issue will come before the Planning Commission and then be appealed to the Board of Supervisors.
